Resolve

With only a few weeks left in the year, it is time to start thinking about our New Year's resolutions. I don't mean what will resolve to do in 2010, because who knows what will come up that could prevent them from happening? I'm talking about looking back on our 2009 resolutions. Usually, I don't believe in these things because they just seem like unnecessary ways to place pressure on yourself. And because my only consistent New Year's resolution has been to stop biting my nails since 1992 and I still do it.

I do believe in setting goals though. So while I don't determine at the beginning of a year what I hope to accomplish, I do tend to look back on the year that's ending and decide if there's anything I didn't do that I should have done, or wanted to do and never did. Usually it's "skydiving" and "writing a novel."

This year, however, I resolved to start a blog (finally) and give it some direction. Also, since it is mid-December year and writers have been waiting patiently, I resolve to publish two pieces a week instead of one until the end of the year.

I hope you all have accomplished (or are on your way to accomplish) everything you set out to do this year. And if you haven't, don't get too worried about it. There's always next year.

  1. I had a really fantastic year!! I had some small pieces published and found a home for my novel-YAY!! My #1 resolution of 09 was to write 1000 words a day. I didn't do that the entire year...but I feel the resolution was a success...I wrote about 30,000 words in January and finished my 3rd novel. I spend the rest of the year editing it, editing my 2nd novel, and working on some other pieces too. So a majority of my year was spend editing, but when I was in writing mode...I most definitely kept to my resolution!!
